Days Gone is a game that is both action-adventure and survival horror game. It is a game that was developed by Bend Studio and was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Released for PlayStation 4 in April of 2019 and Microsoft Windows in May of 2021, Days Gone became a hit for its gameplay, open world, and thrilling with “Freakers”. Although Days Gone received mixed reviews by critics, it received positive reviews by players and slowly gained a fan favourite status for its entertainment value.
Storyline and Setting.
The events of Days Gone take place in Oregon in the aftermath of a pandemic, two years after the devastation. In this game, we become Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who was once an outlaw biker. Deacon’s pursuit of hope, survival, and his long-lost wife is the centre of the narrative.
The world of the game is savage and filled with humans, dangerous wildlife and zombies-esque creatures called Freakers which threaten your life constantly. Days Gone features a story of emotional impact, placing an emphasis on loyalty, loss and redemption, unlike zombie games.
Gameplay Mechanics.
Open-World Exploration.
Days Gone features a gigantic open-world experience in North America’s Pacific Northwest. Players have the option to freely roam through forests, mountains, small towns, and abandoned highways. The day-night cycle and weather systems will alter gameplay, notably in how the enemies behave.
Combat and Survival.
The game combines stealth, melee, and ranged combat. Deacon has to deal with limited resources based on the Scarlet Hollow map. To survive overwhelming odds, they upgrade weapons, craft Molotov cocktails and set traps.
The Bike – Your Lifeline.
One of the most unique features in Days Gone is Deacon’s bike. It serves as the player’s lifeline, used for fast travel, escape, and exploration.
The bike needs a regular maintenance, fuel management, and upgrade in it to make the game realistic and complex.
Freakers and Enemies.
The Freaker hordes are one of Days Gone’s most amazing features. To encounter these enemies, the player will have to plan their strategies carefully to win the fight. Along with the Freakers, Deacon must face camps of hostile humans, including marauders, cultists (the Rippers), and ambush camps.
Reception and Legacy.
When Days Gone was released, it got mixed reviews due to its tech issues and pacing. However, the post-launch patches and the release of the game on PC led to renewed appreciation. Today, Players Consider it as an underrated gem from Sony’s catalogue, and fans are still looking for a sequel.
Despite the lack of a Days Gone 2 announcement, the video game has been quite successful. This is because of a strong fanbase.

The PC version was released in 2021, boasting enhanced graphics, support for ultra-wide monitors, unlocked frame rates, and improved performance. As a result of this launch, Days Gone grew in popularity for being a beautiful and emotional survival game.
